Kristen Sheaffer > Junior Ladies
2002 Midwestern Sectional Junior Ladies Champion
Kristen Sheaffer was born on December 12, 1985, in Boston, MA, and began skating at the age of two. Now a native of Roseville, MN, she trains in Minneapolis, where she is coached by Page Lipe and skates for the Starlight Ice Dance Club. This past season, she won the Midwestern Sectional Junior ladies title and placed 6th in 2002 U.S. Nationals. She plans to compete as a Junior again in 2002-2003. Sheaffer tells Unseen Skaters: "I think that my strongest aspect of my skating is my expression and focus. I love to skate to music, and I love thinking of interesting things that I can do to that music. Also, once I have decided to do something, I will not stop until I do it." Some of her favorite skating elements are the triple lutz, footwork, and the 'bug spin' -- a pancake back sit spin with her foot over her head -- which she invented herself. She admires many skaters, including Michelle Kwan "for her longevity," Irina Slutskaya's "huge and powerful" jumps, and Alexei Yagudin's "footwork, expression, and competitive greatness." Sheaffer attends Roseville Area High School part time, where she has received academic honors, and would like to become an attorney in the future. Off the ice, she enjoys going to the movies, shopping, hanging out with friends, reading, and riding horses.
