Born September 2, 1989, Bianca Butler began skating at the age of seven, when her grandmother, a figure skating and Sonja Henie fan, brought her to the rink. "At first," Butler explains, "I did not like the cold but after several months I began asking to go to the rink all the time." Butler began skating at the rink in Escondido, CA, but currently trains in Lake Arrowhead, CA.
Butler competes both as a novice lady and in intermediate pairs (her partner is Joseph Jacobson.) She is coached by Alexander Zaitsev, a two time Olympic Gold Medalist in pairs, Elena Tcherkasskaia, and Rafael Arutunian. Says Butler, "I love training in Lake Arrowhead because I get to skate with my idols: Michelle Kwan, Angela Nikodinov, and recently Alexander Abt has been training in Lake Arrowhead." She represents the Rim of the World Figure Skating Club.
