Spotlight on Lindsey Berg by
Anna
Exclusive to Unseen Skaters. October 12, 2001.
Lindsey Berg, 15 years old, finished 9th as a junior at Nationals last year. In July, she landed a triple/triple in the free skate at Wissahickon Summer Competition to win the event.
How did you begin skating?
I began skating at the age of three in 1989. Our city had just opened up a rink and my parents heard that they were going to have group lessons, so my mom signed my sister and I up.
What would you like to accomplish this season?
My outcome goals for the upcoming season is to win the National Championships in Junior Ladies.
What are some of your long term goals?
My long term goals on the ice is to one day win the Olympics. Off the ice, when I am done skating I want to become a veterinarian.
What aspects of your skating do you consider to be your strongest, and which are you looking for improve the most?
I think that jumping is one of my strong points. This summer I am working on making the spins faster, my landings solid, and just polishing my overall skating.
You've been landing consistant triple/triple combinations. Should we look for one in your long program?
Yes, I am planning on putting a triple/triple in my long program this coming season.
Who are your favorite skaters? Why?
I admire Michelle Kwan for her mental toughness and determination. I admire Michael Weiss for his perserverance and I admire Tara Lipinski for her fight to win.
What was your most memorable skating moment?
My most memorable moment on the ice was when I landed my triple salchow/triple loop for the first time in competition.
Please describe your first experience at Nationals.
I never went to Junior Nationals but the first time I went to Bationals was in Philadelphia in 1998. I was 12 and I had never made it out of Regionals. I was not expecting to make it to Nationals since I had never been to Sectionals. I remember being so excited and in awe being at Nationals. It was a wonderful experience.
What motivates you to skate?
There are so many different things that I love about skating. I love the feeling of the cold air, the wind in my face. I love the sound that the rip of my blade and the ice make. I love the feeling of landing a jump. But most of all I love the thrill of a good performance and when you know that all of your hard work has paid off. That is the best part of skating.
