Exclusive to Unseen Skaters. August 1, 2001.
Amber Czisny, twin sister of skater Alissa Cizsny, is the Midwestern Regional Junior Silver Medalist and a Midwestern Regional Novice Bronze Medalist. She placed fifth at the 2001 US Nationals in Junior Ladies.
What are your goals for this upcoming season?
This coming season I hope to be assigned, and compete internationally in the Junior Ladies division. I would like to improve my placement at the national level from fifth place. My goal would be to win the gold medal.
What are your long-term skating goals?
On the ice, my goals is to compete for the US as a Senior at the world and Olympic level, and hopefully medal. I also enjoy ice dancing and choreography, and perhaps would have an interest in that in the future.
Describe your relationship with your twin sister, Alissa.
Alissa and I are very close, and since we compete with each other most years, we are supportive to each other. We enjoy skating together everyday day, and work towards similar goals. We were both happy to have compete at US Nationals at the Junior Ladies level together this [past] year.
You finished fifth at the Junior level at Nationals this year. What was the experience like?
I had a wonderful time this year competing in Boston. I made it all the way to Nationals as a first year Junior, placing high enough to make the C team. I was especially happy to be competing there with Alissa. Everything was so organized in Boston; I loved competing there, and being with all of my family. Being able to watch the championship level skaters practice and compete in person was also a learning experience for me.
Will you stay at the Junior level?
I will compete again this season as a junior, because I haven't completed my goals yet at that level.
Who are your favorite skaters and why?
Scott Hamilton is one of my favorite skaters, [sic] first of all, because he is from my hometown of Bowling Green, OH; and he us a very talented and entertaining skater. I love to compete, but Alissa and I like to have fun on the ice too. He has helped me in keeping that a part of my skating too.
What area of skating do you think is your best?
I feel that I have a lot of power on the ice, and also that my presentation is probably stronger right now than my technical level. I really enjoy playing the part of a person or character role in my program, as with my Giselle long program last year, or my new long program this year. I have had a lot of ballet, which has helped with that part of my skating.
What should one look for in your programs next year?
I have just started working on a new long and short program for this coming season, hopefully, with a stronger technical mark.
What is your favorite thing about skating that makes you love it so much?
That is a hard question to answer, because I really love so many things about figure skating. I enjoy performing for an audience, skating to music and being able to interpret it in a creative way. I also love to compete, and it's fun to do it with my sister, Alissa. Figure skating always seems to have some new challange when you've been able to master another; it doesn't get boring.
